About Harmony Education
Harmony Education is a business that partners with Utah charter schools for personalized education at home. Utah residents enroll free in Harmony for grades k-12, which fulfills Utah education requirements and qualifies students for some cool benefits.
Harmony has so many options, it can be a little overwhelming. We’ll do our best to give you an overview of those choices in this post to help you decide if Harmony is for you.
First off, here are the key benefits each student gets with Harmony Ed:
- Your own custom-built schedule with online courses, face-to-face classes, learning kits, and custom curriculum and supplies.
- Additional funds! Students not participating in the Multi-Age Program get the Harmony Plus+ option, up to $500.
- Mentor support
- Borrow additional materials and supplies from the Curriculum Resource Library.
Create a Student Success Plan (SSP)
Your first step once enrolled with Harmony is to collaborate with the mentor assigned to your family to develop a personalized schedule for each student. But to do that, you need to have an idea of what the options are.
Choose 1 of 3 options for your SSP
- 3 core courses (Flex or online) + 3 elective courses/kits OR Options Day
- Learning Expedition
- Multi-Age Program (MAP)
What are Flex Courses?
Flex Courses are individualized courses designed with the help of your mentor. You can request up to $150 in custom learning materials per course per year. Students must submit regular worksheets to demonstrate competency in these courses.
What are Online Courses?
Students can choose from a wide selection of popular online courses, and enroll for free in these courses through Harmony.
What are Elective Courses/Kits?
Elective Courses can be Flex or online courses. Elective Kits have everything you need for hands-on learning at home. Choose from over 100 options. Available for grades 1-6.
What is Options Day?
Options Day is a face-to-face electives day once per week at one of Harmony’s locations in Midvale, Lehi, Springville, or Roy. The day includes 4 elective classes of your choice, for grades 1 through 8.
What is Learning Expeditions?
Learning Expeditions is a supplemented online learning program. Students take all core subjects through Compass Learning Odyssey, and get up to $1000 for custom-built Learning Adventure Kits which Harmony pays for and ships directly to your home.
What is Multi-Age Program (MAP)
MAP is an online and face-to-face blended learning program. Teachers provide engaging instruction 2 days per week at a Harmony Learning Center. For the remaining week days, students receive online curriculum, resources, and activities for learning at home. This on-site program offers two classroom settings: one for students 6-9 years old and another for students 9-12 years old. As noted above, this program option forfeits the Harmony Plus+ option.
